Bouctouche (NB) – The 10th Annual Clément-Cormier Alumnae Gala paid tribute to Acadian singer songwriter Laurie LeBlanc, on Saturday April 30th at the Bouctouche High School. LeBlanc was pleasantly surprised to be named the 10th recipient of the “Père Clément-Cormier Award”. The event honors a former Clement-Cormier High School student who has distinguished himself/herself with all proceeds going to the school’s scholarship fund.

From the class of 1987, LeBlanc was pleasantly surprised to be named the 10th recipient of the “Père Clément-Cormier Award”. With all proceeds going to the school’s scholarship fund (39,000$ raised), the event honors a former Clement-Cormier High School student who has distinguished himself / herself. Amongst the recipients, we find Benoit Bourque, MLA Kent South at Government of New Brunswick and the giant actor Robert Maillet.

“I am extremely lucky to have been chosen by the selection committee.” There are so many alumni who deserve this award as much as I do! It is such an incredible honor!” Admits Laurie LeBlanc. “To receive this honor is to receive the support of my loved ones and my community… and that is incredible! It’s a nice pat on the shoulder that motivates us to continue.”

Nearly 300 people came for this special event. After the five-course meal, the country music singer-songwriter took the stage to accept his award of excellence – a beautiful hand made photo drawn by Amélie Gallant, a former Clément-Cormier student - presented by the director of the school at the time Mr. Adélard Cormier.
